My name is Hans-Dieter Ehlermann. I have created this web site to offer my expertise after more than 35 years working in the field of bookbinding and developing the special system of perfect binding. I have been following in the steps of my forefathers: my grandfather Emil Lumbeck invented the "fan glue binding process" in the year 1930, and my father Hans Ehlermann produced hand binding units and later semiautomatic perfect binders using the fan binding process with cold glue applications (PVA glues) in the 60s and 70s. In the meantime, the world of binding and gathering machines has dramatically changed. During these "old" days semiautomatic binders produced approximately 800 books/hour - but today, state-of-the-art machines are manufacturing up to 18,000 books/hour. Furthermore, the machine output is even heading towards 30,000 - 35,000 books/hour when books are produced in 2-up-size (for example paperbacks or schoolbooks). This means working in two shifts and a production possibility of up to 500,000 books/day!
