The Wohlenberg Perfect Binder -  Champion e

Champion e

Wohlenberg continues the success story of its Champion line of machines with the new perfect binder "Champion e". Following the Champion 7000 that was first presented at DRUPA 1995, and the Champion 8000, the "Champion e" is now the third generation of Champion machines. As a platform for the upper performance segment of perfect binders, it is therefore an important element in the Wohlenberg product range. In particular, it is an impressive symbol for the innovative force and capabilities of our company.

The starting point for the development of the new Champion e was the demand from our customers for further automation with the aim of achieving a significant improvement in the efficiency of the perfect binder. The outcome of our development was that we can now present a high-performance, fully motorised perfect binder that meets all the requirements and wishes of our customers.

Outstanding features of the new Champion e are, in particular, simple operation, a high level of automation (reconfiguration can generally be carried out in less than 90 sec.), high-performance spine preparation and low noise emission.

Initial reactions from the market and from the technical committee of the trade association are characterised by great enthusiasm for the capabilities of the Champion e.

> Fully motorised control of all important functions with high degree of accuracy
> Optimal spine preparation with 4 motor-controlled processing stations and dust extraction:

  • High-performance 11 kW main milling unit, optionally with shred-type or dust type milling unit
  • BREF; a duplex cutting tool for simultaneous forward and reverse milling to prevent "beard formation"
  • Synchronised notching station with 3 notching tools for notching of product spine
  • Multi-tooth head for roughening and lifting the paper fibres for optimal binding quality at the same time as good impact behaviour
  • Dust extraction for gentle, contact-free removal of milling dust

> Movable gluing units as exchangeable system for different gluing methods (hotmelt, dispersion and PUR)
> Ready for the use of two-shot equipment
> Robust construction with new design
> Noise minimisation and selective starting and braking behaviour through shaftless drive for the combination of gathering machine and perfect binder together with optimised drives
> Space-saving machine configuration through 90 degree and 180 degree curve between gathering machine and perfect binder
> NAVIGATOR - the user-friendly, graphically interactive machine control system
> Dynamically expandable through IR drying, gauze station, flap, scoring and folding station, high-frequency drying, cross-stacking delivery, etc.
